What is Stage 4 CKD?
Stage 4 chronic kidney disease means an eGFR of 15 to 29 — advanced, but still not dialysis by itself. The goals shift to protecting every bit of remaining function, managing complications (blood pressure, anemia, bone health, potassium and acid balance), following a more careful kidney diet, and planning ahead calmly so that, if kidney function does keep falling, you and your family understand the realistic options before any decision is needed. Reaching Stage 4 is serious, but honest, report-based care and close monitoring help you stay in control rather than in fear.
Symptoms to watch for
- Tiredness, weakness, poor concentration
- Swelling in legs or around the eyes
- Reduced appetite or nausea
- Itching or dry skin
- Low hemoglobin (anemia) on reports
- eGFR 15–29 on reports
When to consult a kidney doctor
If your eGFR is 15–29 or reports show CKD Stage 4, you need prompt, regular nephrology care. Breathlessness, very low urine, persistent vomiting or confusion needs emergency care.
